"Demoiselle en detresse"..Pencil Damsil in distress

The paranormally paranoid pencil damsil in distress, is in essence a contemporary re-telling of the traditional melodrama under its title. This is the main concept around a new project that I plan to go into. A personal narration of life outside the conventional spheres.

This whole concept was reason enough to re-think the positionality from which the character of Nuhtkays speaks from, the voice I express the self from, and all of the in between. This was the opportunity for me to re-think those elements and re-look at what I serve on my plate to the few who support and follow the nut through my local hustle.

I am only getting to truly understand Nutcase as that subliminal madness that we all have but don't always acknowledge is there. The character of nuhtkays herself is a completely lunatic one for being the unconventional broken girl in a so-called mans world. she's the reality of a psychologically damaging society, and the product of such a society in physical materiality..people like her are the epitome of abnormal insecurity issues, self mutilative, submissively violent crack heads with a dark side that is nothing like the average father issues girl type..she’s like that lab experiment gone wrong!
Messed up in every way and in every form, this is the character whose voice I take up when I write and when I produce anything creative.

Out of all of this, I've learnt about a true freedom from structure, but then again that is another topic for another day all together.
I no longer think that it is a negative thing that females get to have it tougher than males do in this thing. It adds a salt of exclusive value to all the 'sistaz' who have cracked it and those deserving more respect than the average male emcee. Its power politics that eventually play into the females hands when percieved outside dominant ideologies of gender, it characterises so many different things It would take a whole chapter to unravel.

this is simply where i'd like to come out about certain issues and what the next project is about, shedding light on certain aspects of what i do and basically what is in store for you in the next project. and the way forward from there.

hip hop is always going to be a part of who I am. Even if i decide to go into other career fields later on in my life and don't pursue hip hop as a career...the hip hop in me won't stop. It won't change; it will carry on growing within those conditions. It is still growing right now and under the tough conditions of a university degree schedule, I'm still keeping true to it and it is still a large part of my language and my interaction with others and those around me. It will always be that me, and i will always love it. coz self-evolution is the reason I am still hip hop even today....

That obsessive mathafucka that you'v got nothing on!

With all of that said and out in the open, I felt it necessary to whip up a short introduction video on who the hell Subliminal Nuhtkays really is and what place she takes up in our local and south african hip hop and all that other good stuff! This video fed off a whole lot from the short documentary me and Breeh attempted to undertake, we used some of the footage from there into this small project and with it also prepared a complimentary vlog that goes hand in hand with the actual intro vid. The vlog on the other hand is more like a bouncer since in it I'm simply discussing plans of a tape and all of the current progress and simply where to from here, creatively.

With the wi-fi here on campus taking hella long to load I'm sure to provide the links to the two videos later on twitter and on facebook, didn't think they would load for sooo long!!

you can hala at ur nut on twitter:
@Nuhtkayz

don't worry about pfb's I certainly follow all my peoples back!!

if i speak in code than i will speak in that code until those who are meant to hear  that code can finally hear it!  as a voice though i speak for that hidden female shit that nobody wants to talk about, that obsessive, supressed desires and opressed selves and supposed weaknesses and the resulting rebel lunatic that comes out of all of that jazz.

Still on that lyrical grind.
The journey still continues!!

love and kiff vibes sent to you.
Cheerz!!

Crucifix - The virtual drama testimony

Simply decided to sit and blog about a recent virtual drama I found myself entangled in.It's all funny rubbish when you start to realise where it branches out from. technically it was like being jumped by 7 guys and one girl.

After being virtually crucified and verbally assaulted for stringing along and chatting up a few nikkaz at the same time, I got to notice that mathaphuckaz taking life WHAYYY too seriously and jus' need to chill and have fun.

The small buzz around this issue was becoming emotionally damaging, nobody needs that type of negative energy and hate for anything wrong they could do. My resentment of this guy started after news were surfacing and I automatically suspected he was behind all the rubbish because like all gossip, shit comes out all spiced up with extra seasoning so much that the initial story is so distorted you can't even recognise it. these nikkaz are bitches for that!!

My question still stands,
If it's so easy to talk the crap that you wouldn't say in real life over the net, why make it such a big deal?
Why flirt and treat it as tho it were a real event and not jus' online?
do nikkaz seriously think girls take any of that seriously?
My last tweet was

"a nikka tip:..if dudes don't wana be taken fo a ride, or toyed around with..they shud'nt mack on facebook, no grl takes dat stuff seriously"

@Nuhtkayz

In order to make this article really entertaining, We'll just pretend that nikkaz didn't know that guys who make moves on ladies online or over the phone become toy around jokes to us...
It's no secret this is a coward move from the oldest book of shit and makes you look like a wussy with no game.

The really mis-communicated  idea here is the guys failure to understand that expecting a chick to buy into online gizmo is an insult to her, point me to one chick who doesn't agree and i'll point you to somebody who has never had reliable friends before who cared about her.

Seemingly what 'v done must be one of the those deadly crimes, coz already I'm being branded the same as that girl who sleeps around regardless of the fact that I'v never met none of these nikkaz before..to begin with!! LOL!

It's clear that people bought into my online bullshit and that was my apparent claim to ultimate bitchery!

If everything this fool has said to me so far is true and is anything to go by, I'm amazed at being able to fabricate a virtual notoriety that has got folks so worked up they feel the need to diss me in their battles regardless of never having met me before...all in nursing their broken egos'

I must have really bruised his ego for him to be so passionate about telling me off when I popped over to his wall commenting the other day..LOL! I should be feeling really bad right now, but it's too much effort to pretend cos I really don't give a fuck about what he thinks about me, It's all too entertaining to not divulge in this blog. this guy fronting like I need psychiatric help when I'm not the one who made a diss about a girl I'v never met before, I could have wished to call it obsession but this dude simply hates me for the shit he's hearing about me..all of which there is no physical proof of by the way..LOL!

Because we share the same faith in hip hop with these mathaphuckaz, being the only thing connecting me to them. In saying that I actually mean that I used to think of these egotistical kats as my friggin' brothers in this thing, and that was possibly my greatest mistake to date,

The intention was always to network and create valuable affiliations within this hip hop community  and through all that jazz still I didn't take life all that serious.

The issue here was never really about me taking mathafuckaz for a ride, its actually about folks struggle to accept the fact that they fell for it. When these same fools call me names n shit it really is just a reflection of their own weakness and how embarrassed they are about having fell for that crazy stuff.

Being accepted has never been my goal, but if I don't address this issue I wouldn't be honest about having it bother me so much. For so long I'v been my own person and I still stand by that, I won't be dictated by insecure nikkaz petty bullshit ideologies of women.

Nikkaz were chilling behind their internet screens calling me all these names and having a big ball about it when they'r nothing but wierdo phone sexaholics who convinced themselves they'd already had me in a bag already without even understanding the type of person I am.

It was awesome to be playfully in contact with other heads for a while, I won't even blame myself for this fall out, I'm explicitly unapologetic!!

and trust me...I didn't make it that hard, nikkaz is jus fuck'd up thats what...
Not the hottest mathaphucka you'v ever seen, no yellow bone shit going on, no huge boobs n huge ass, just simply short and tiny and on average joe steez.

could have never imagined the impact of such actions to be this big.

Now that I'v spoken my mind, I'm free and can get back to studying.

Peace to the liberal Nut

A deeper look at Ash-leigh Lexikon L Foy

Lex La Foy, Queen Shalabeama the mother of Torquois!!!

Phresh spirited South African freestyle murking emcee, is no fresh face to South African hi hop Lexi's been kicking verses for 9 years and counting,
SAHHA (best mixtape) award nominee 2012 and Top 20 BTTC finalist of the 10k challenge,(@ www.backtothecityfestival.com)  We're going to be looking at Lexikons' creative make and get to analyse the detail of what she does and everything else surrounding it.

It goes without question that allegiance goes to our ladies first as the fresh rare edition to the male dominated arena, the 4 of us behind scenes Nutz are loyal supporters of Lady Lex, loyalty is what it is all about..keeps it moving Lex, we'r all behind u all da mathafriggin way bay!!

A quick intro
for all heads who don't know Lex yet (of which you should be ashamed of!)

>Lexikon debuted onto the scene in 2004, featured in DYR's hip hop show Swiss chedder.
>She got invited to rap at the inqaba hip hop sessions at Bat center in Durban.
>Was in the same crew as Zulu Boy and Raheem of T.H.O.T.S
>Her mixtape "sketches in the mind" was executively produced by Blaq Hitilah a.k.a Kangamaan supreme and was nominated at the 1st annual SAHHA awards

Lexikon as the battle emcee!!

The scrambles for money battle circuit has been responsible for the buzz of excitement that's been going on in the hip hop community (nationally), anybody whose a South African head has got 1 battle to tell you about from scrambles that they thought was dope..F**k it! If you can't share a single line from a hard hitting battle on scrambles, then ur just NOT STREET enough...period!

So we also spoke to Lexikon about her battle on scrambles, n what that experience was like, with only 2 questions from the whole interview.

Lexikon spent the first 4 years of her rap career battling and freestyling

" at the time, it was just the thing to do. Honouring the gift because it exists. I later came to learn that all that was referred to as 'earning one's dues"

- Quoted from an interview answer by Ashleigh.

Q: Before the battle took place, did you look forward to it?
A: "I did. I was driven by the hype around the event and the great media attention given to it."

Q: What was battling Protista like? And what did you take with you from that experience?
A: "It was super fun. I hadn’t battled in years. And I won’t lie, I was rather intimidated at the offer to battle again. I love an adrenaline rush though. I love challenging myself and being challenged and I love confrontation. While I was up there I remembered how much I enjoyed battling. A Queen must always be prepared to go to war for her people. And so there I was. I did best, and it was cool earning respect. Ofcourse there were huge commentaries on the judgments at those battles. I’m all good though, her and I spoke the other day, and, well…let’s just say her admitting she felt the way she did, was soothing justice for me. There was a lot of hostility in the air at the time, and a while after. We’re all good now. Battling is an art, and we saw it through. I know bushwomen (like myself and her) are always full of attitude, so I enjoyed it artistically. I’d battled other femcees in the past that were a lot more boring. She was nice"

I give it up to both ladies on this battle, Protista was nice in delivery, word play, rebuttles were strong..flow and rythm waz hella!! Lexikon was nice on  the punch, presence was crazy n she really did go in there to attack..big ups!

Back to analysing Lexi, we concluded that...

(Focused on her "ooh ahh" joint that made it into the back to the city festival's 10k challenge top 20 finalists list)

With influences such as Kanye West, Jay-Z, Godessa and Lauryn hill, you can already see where the minimalist in her material comes from.

she described her writing process as
"If God is this circle of All Creation and Energy dancing inside me, then I just need to be self-aware enough to hear the lyrics come through. The mechanical process includes me listening to a beat and interpreting lyrics for it, or alternatively I’ll just write when the urge arises, and I later find that it fits a beat. It’s a supernatural process really. Like all things, the beat and song must be complimentary, and so if we are at the same vibratory level, things just flow"

A lot of her inspiration comes from a natural process, emerging from a time where u were not regarded as an emcee if you couldn't write, battle and freetyle makes her so much more of a package than most of the emcees to emerge from this era since it was long then a requirement to exist in all 3 spheres and not jus simply work with what you deemed your strong points. of which in that case you woudn't be identified as an emcee. Which is why Lexikon would come across as an all rounder.

Lexikon goes on to complain about how kids these days are bedroom rappers that heard new flows and call themselves rappers.
"Ofcourse, nobody’s complaining. We all had to start somewhere. Myself? I’m an artist. I’ve never categorized what I do into a box. As I mentioned above, this art thing has a lot to do with obedience or being real with one’s Self. I’ve just done what the (he)art has instructed. If a song came through I’d sing it. If a poem came through I’d recite it" - Quoted from interview answers.

After watching her battle on scrambles and listening to her "ooh aah" joint we concluded...

in 2 elements of emceeing (battle, write), we felt that Lexi's strength were mostly in battle, Her tracks flow was enjoyable and that beat could go onto our playlist for hourzz! but paws came out hardest in battle.

It seems Lexikon has a spiritual connection with what she does, she explained her writing process as "listening to a beat and interpreting lyrics for it" the same way that Erykah Badu listens to the beat first and then expresses the energy she has picked up and given her the words to speak/sing. She also went on to say that " the beat and the song must be complimentary, and so if we are at the same vibratory level, things just flow". That statement simply justified our ideas to having a spiritual connection with her craft because wen u think about frequency resonance, vibrations and energy..you simply know that the artist is coming from a metaphysical place with subconscious inspired material.

Our ratings: scale 1 - 10

content - 6
delivery - 7
wordplay/rhyme - 7

(feel free to also rate Lexi's material on the comments section at the very bottom of article)

The original dynamic that Lexi brings in, is the energy of an accepted idea of a female figure in society. She has a motherly feminine feel of tenderness but still keeping true to her hand in the arts of emceeing. which is a beautiful energy that you can pick up from just also being around her. She has a lovely aura with her that is clearest  when she performs. Experiencing her performing at Bat centre  this weekend waz bonkerzz!!

The criteria used to analyse Lady Lex's creative build:

- base of the artistic acts in the form of influences, inspirations, origins of the whole idea and the full story behind it.

- Original dynamic and personal factor's within that traditional element of Hip Hop. The personal self n tastes and how they come out in material.
- The artist and their relationship with what they do.
- manifestation of character in lyric, content, delivery, and style analysis.
- other fortifying factors.
- ideological build of the artists identity.

The culture of Hip Hop in itself revolves around competition, as far as skill is concerned, domination is key. Whose act do you think you'r doper then? in the battle circle is where that stuff can be put to the test. We ended up debating a whole lot around this but eventually came to the conclusion that battle certainly is and should stay a vital part of the existence of any emceeing. If you can rap, u certainly should be able to battle. you can be strong at either freestyle or writtens but taking somebody on shouldn't be a problem to you it should be a challenge, to compete with yourself like Gin - Grimes once mentioned in a promo clip for his battle with Kadence. sometimes it should just be about testing yourself to see if you can knock down your opponent with all your skill and lyrical strengths, can that be enough to dominate another emcee? and the point of written battles is probably to accommodate really sick emcees whose strengths are not in freestyle.

Remember to vote if you'd like to experience Lady lexikon on the BTTC stage 2013!!

The artist line up - towards creative scrutiny!!

So far we'v got a number of 10 creative acts to dissect, That line up is ready!! thanx for the suggestions on facebook.

feel free to suggest emcees or random artists whom you'd like to have us place under careful creative scrutiny, because as a reader of this blog right now you automatically form part of the inspiration vine, which is that creative network that this blog is trying to create interactions for, playing that middle communication figure between fellow artists and their audiences. lets connect from those gaps with a different language all together!!

The artists selected on our line up, some have confirmed and others haven't responded yet, or haven't been approached yet but are still artists of our interest, and we'd still like to analyse their creative make and speak to them about their selected mediums of expression as poets, emcees, musicians or these mad battle khats!

The vine has been established, there are only 4 of us behind the scenes working on the body of this project in different departments of it, but i'v noticed that we are only the starting base of a fast growing vine! we are well over 120 now thanks to yesterdays support, all of the new vine members from Qaqamba Mbili, Nkosana Cadastrofik Xaba and Vincent Legion among the many..a great thanks to you guys, and  also a warm one to all artists who have joined the inspiration vine including War Bandit.

These profiles on each of our selected artists will likely go up on weekends because all 4 of us working on this project are students, and are often very tied during the week.

Unfamiliar systems very wikid, War Bandit!!

hala hala!!
welcome your ass 'ere....

Todays post is jam packed and hella exciting!
I plan to play heavy cards on you today.
Covering our first wikid emcee,
War Bandit is no stranger to the hip hop community.
Unfamiliar systems exceptionally talented Tshepo Chaka's got...
"the deadliest flow/
when I spit your brain will explode/ i'm ripping in codes/
when offstage I'm (still) killin' a show"...quoted off the last verse on loose cannon.

With amazingly positive energies and a personality to rock both mars and earth together at once, this emcee has sure got the universe at his command. You can only expect the best from an emcee that's been on his grind since he was a kid, 5 seconds into an online conversation with him and you already know that he means business, humble and super grounded for an artist of his calibre, today we put Tshepo Chaka under the Nut radar!!!

Under the radar!!

*progressed onto emceeing after seeing he's got the potential to murk most kats on the scene at the time.

*started out jamming Aesop Rock, El-P, the deff jux movement and yfm's rap activity.

* Creatively inspired by Hymphatic Tabz, Blazing Spear,K1 fam,Kenny Majozi and Krook'd the warmonger.

*has worked with artists Fudge Defugitive, Blaq faith, Page, Morse code, Red button, Siya Shezi, and Ntsiki from the soil.

War Bandits loose cannon music video

(click on the link of the music video to be redirected to youtube)

Shot at a popular cypha spot in Protea Glenn, the video is certainly 1 up the crowd, reflecting a true depiction of the actual culture and local scene War Bandit is a product of..

After being asked about his writing process, His creative spots started showing. Quoted saying "I'm just a dude with voices in his head..W.A.R Bandit happens to be one of the dominant ones.. There is a HUGE difference between Tshepo Chaka and W.A.R Bandit"

He further explains these inspirational voices with, "The are many voices..The more dominant voices would be W.A.R Bandit,Duke Ironlungz,MidKnight Walker,Number 5 tha Defender and F@1 amongst others, theres a different voice for a specific style and mood of wriiting. Eg. W.A.R Bandit would be for the more battle focused scripts and MidKnight Walker would be for the more laid back conscious scripts.

Talk about creative Genius!! It's always awesome to get to experience an emcee who doesn't jump on a beat and undermine the craft, real effort goes into the material and quality is guaranteed, This what its should really be about, coz like Wyclef once said.."too many emcee's not enough mics"..with Bandits inspirational voices now shared, u bet Bandit is a cut above the rest with exactly where his material comes from...he be channeling demons n shit on his Jak Tripper Progresso tip..haha..lol!, jus kidding. *hides*

Nutzaboutrap:
1.) the word play, alliteration, flow and delivery
 on loose cannon is wiiiiikid!!
it jus smoothes you into the frist verse so magically..
how long did it take you to perfect your craft? its so
 friggin well groomed.

WarBandit:

I'm very fussy about my writing and picking beats..
But it also depends on a whole lot of other things
like the mood of the beat and where it takes me

Nutzaboutrap:

2.)is there a tape coming out? n when can we
expect it?

WarBandit:

Yes the is a tape coming out. Unfortunately
I can not put a date to it as yet but this year definitely.
Its Called "Anti-Gravity".. SpeeKa did most of the production.
Also worked with Blaq Faith,Morse Kode,Page,Red Button
and Masta.. Artists I worked with include Siya Shezi, Fudge da Fugitive,
Ntsika (The Soil), Bles.Sing, Ma7 and a lot more.

Nutzaboutrap:

3.)what words would u like to give to the heads out there that aspire to reach the level that u are at creatively in what they do?

WarBandit:

Let passion drive you. It becomes easier to do what you do honestly.. Yeah the is going to be some business issues and stuff. But let the passion keep you going.. Start at the begining and make your way up. That way you know the in's and out's of the game u r in. From the cypher to the big stage!!!

Nutzaboutrap:

4.)tell us a bit more about unfamiliar systems.

WarBandit:

Unfam is a crew started by Blaq Faith and Vice tha 13th..its a collective of some of thee most talented individuals out there. Raging from production to emceeing to poetry.. Its very hard to describe the entity that is Unfamilia Systemz.its just a collective of creatives who just love what they do and the do it very well

Pulse ink. Productions, Unfam Forever, Imaginary Friendz world wide. Oh ja...and stay Crook or Die!!

The loose cannon music video:
A pulse ink and fossil age TV collaboration
Produced by Speeka
Directed, shot and edited by Casper Writtens

After speaking to Phakiso Mokoena about the video project
(member of unfamiliar systems network, and Fossil age TV rep) who later directed me to WarBandit himself for a direct interview, I also got a
small list of the members of unfamiliar systems to go hunt them down and source up some more amazing hip hop creatives and their material and see who else we are bringing under the Nut radar!

great thanks and appreciation to Fossil age Tv, Pulse ink and unfamiliar systems.Keep keeping on!!!

War Bandit as a Nut?!

as far as all my writings are concerned, I have used the term NUT to describe an above average, extra-ordinary individual with their own unique factor. somebody out of the box, inspirational, creative and with a whole lot of potential...it takes a lot to be nuts with what you do u know!

Does Bandit have the Nut factor?

*drumroll!!!*...Hell friggin yeah!! niggaz a nut fo real!!!
on a scale of 1 to 10 our Bandit sits on a chilly 8!! he brought it through the flow, his play on words was mad! the visuals were off da hinges, delivery spanked and I totally loved it and think all the other nuts out there will love it all the same. big ups to you bro.

A crux bless to you for popping in, I hope you'll subscribe and let other nuts know where to find us. If there's any topic you'd like addressed on this blog..be free to shout and lets make this baby what we want it to be!!
See ya next post
